Why do we need a scanner?

An MRI Scanner is an essential piece of medical equipment used to investigate almost any part of the body. At present we don’t have one at the Friarage Hospital in Northallerton, which means our North Yorkshire patients have to make the journey to Middlesbrough for these important imaging tests.

Having an MRI scanner will not only enable us provide diagnostic services closer to home, it means we can meet future growing demand, increasing our capacity across the organisation. As part of the South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust commitment to the long-term future of the Friarage Hospital, we’re thrilled that South Tees Hospitals Charity is embarking on a £2million fundraising campaign – the first for many years – to buy an MRI scanner.
